              Here, the principle of proximity<\/strong> applies: the closest agnate inherits first.<\/p>

              After That: Cognates<\/h2>

              If there are no agnates either, the law looks at cognates<\/strong>, which are relatives connected through female links<\/strong>, either wholly or partly.
              These could include:<\/strong><\/p>

              • Maternal relatives<\/li>
              • Relatives linked through daughters or sisters<\/li><\/ul>

                Again, proximity decides who inherits first.<\/p>

                The Last Outcome: Escheat to the Government<\/h2>
